Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information CheckShop collects when you use checkshop.io, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the directory, and we do not sell your personal information.

Information we collect

• Search and browsing activity. The search terms and filters you use, and the pages you view, so we can return results and improve the directory.
• Email address — only when you provide it. If you submit a shop, send a report, or open a support ticket, we use your email to verify the request and to reply. We do not require an account to browse.
• Votes and reports. When you rate a seller or report a listing, we store a one-way, salted hash derived from your network address to prevent duplicate votes and abuse. This hash is not your IP address and is not used to identify you.
• Basic analytics. We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand aggregate traffic — for example, which pages are popular. This is described below.

How we use information

We use the information above to operate and improve the Service: to return search results, run the voting and reporting features, review and list shops, respond to reports and support requests, and understand aggregate usage. We do not use it to build advertising profiles.

Analytics and cookies

Google Analytics may set cookies or similar identifiers to measure aggregate usage. This data is processed by Google as described in Google’s privacy documentation. You can block cookies in your browser or use a content blocker; the Service will still work.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers that help us run the Service (such as our hosting and analytics providers), or where required by law. When you click through to a third-party seller, that seller’s own privacy practices apply — not ours.

Data retention

We keep report and support correspondence for as long as needed to handle the matter and for our records, and vote hashes for as long as the related listing is active. You can ask us to delete correspondence you have sent us.

Your choices

You can browse without giving us any personal information. If you have emailed us or submitted a shop or report, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of that information by contacting us.
